Description

Located at 4,757’ elevation the Adrianna Vineyard is in the Gualtallary District, Tupungato Region, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. Extreme high altitude and cool climate impart a distinctive minerality to this Mendoza Chardonnay. A patch of sandy soil layered with calcareous deposits and limestone make up the site used for White Bones. Fossilised animal bones can be found among the limestone, remnants of ancient rivers that passed through the region. The wine is elegant, lively and perfumed. There is good weight of fruit and a stunningly clean palate. Hints of minerals and oak pair well with the citrus and spicy flavour spectrum. This wine is still a pup, give it another 5-10 years I’d say. Great with calamari or shellfish.

The Catena family are pioneers of Mendoza. They have carved out a fine empire based on making quality wines from the region that put Argentina on the wine map. Since their large land holdings give them access to some of the the great sites of Mendoza, the resulting wines are outstanding. At the lower level the wines are probably a bit simple but not a bad wine is released here. Most of all I suggest you taste the Malbec based wines because they truly stand out.

Mendoza

Without question the jewel in the crown of Argentina. A large region. Lots of young and innovative producers have moved in and are slowly mapping out sub-regions and single vineyards of note. Look out for great Malbec but lots of experimentation means you can find all sorts of wonderful wines.

Chardonnay

The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
