Description

Sourced from high altitude vineyards that make a more refined but aromatic style of Mendoza Malbec. Still plenty of acid and tannin but with brighter red fruits compared to some.

The Catena family are pioneers of Mendoza. They have carved out a fine empire based on making quality wines from the region that put Argentina on the wine map. Since their large land holdings give them access to some of the the great sites of Mendoza, the resulting wines are outstanding. At the lower level the wines are probably a bit simple but not a bad wine is released here. Most of all I suggest you taste the Malbec based wines because they truly stand out.

Mendoza

Without question the jewel in the crown of Argentina. A large region. Lots of young and innovative producers have moved in and are slowly mapping out sub-regions and single vineyards of note. Look out for great Malbec but lots of experimentation means you can find all sorts of wonderful wines.

Malbec

Native to South West France, Malbec is a minor player in Bordeaux and the major grape in the underappreciated Cahors. It has long been the star of Argentina. It makes wines that are intense, tannic, dark fruited with nice acidity. Perfect match for a country that consumes a lot of meat.
