Description

Cantina Valle Isarco is a dynamic winery located close to the Austrian border, which was instrumental in re-establishing the wine industry of the South Tyrol (the province within the northernmost Italian region called Alto Adige). Today it enjoys international recognition as one of the region’s most outstanding wineries. Wines produced include cool-climate white varieties such as Sylvaner, Műller Thurgau and Pinot Bianco as well as the red Zweigelt grape, which originated from Austria.

Flying the flag for Pinot Blanc or Weissburgunder as it is labelled at All The Pinots. It was the most shy and reserved of all the wines, it showed floral notes, pears and a hint of spice and mineral. It did have a wonderful mouthfeel and really sang when I could flag down some of Mezzo’s canapes. A brilliant wine for matching with shellfish, white meats and creamier pasta and risotto dishes.

Pinot Blanc/Bianco – Its spiritual home is Alsace but these vines have travelled the world. In Alsace it is often blended with the other Pinot family members to make a full bodied, easy drinking white. Generally not as complex as the other Pinots but the best are amazing. AKA Weissburgunder.
