Description

On the western side of the island of Sicily you’ll find this estate, founded in 1980. Their 1300 hectares sit in three distinct regions of Western Sicily and offer a wide range of both native and international grapes. Further expansion into Puglia and Tunisia gives the family a access to many styles and varieties.

Dark, rich, bold. The primary fruit is dark berries and lots of them, hints of leather and spice are evident and give a bit of balance. The palate is quite full but also soft, this is not a shy wine and provides a lot of immediate enjoyment. No need to cellar this one, its full charm is available now. Match it with some equally bold flavours, steak, mushrooms, roast potatoes and some mustard couldn’t hurt.

Sicily – In a constant tussle with Puglia to win the title of largest volume produced each year, the wines of Sicily are as varied as its history. Delicate whites, full bodied reds and of course Marsala show the variation in climate and abilities of the various regions within the Island.

Shiraz/Syrah – A bit of a chameleon, Shiraz can change how it looks depending on terroir and/or wine maker influence. The Syrah based wines of Northern Rhone are dry and austere while the Shiraz of Barossa is rich and fleshy. A variety that lends itself to long aging but can be drunk at any time of its evolution.
