By Farr Sangreal is from the oldest vines on the Farr Estate. The style typically has a wonderfully rich but savoury perfume. It’s infectious bouquet of vintage and soil characteristics combined with oak and fruit are seamless. The essence of perfumed Pinot Noir. The palate richness from such a savoury vintage shows weight and true length. Seamless in its delivery and a joy to drink. Ageing potential 8+ years.

Gary Farr is a large reason why Bannockburn Vineyards has the reputation it enjoys today. Over the years Gary worked with some of the top names in Burgundy, USA and the Rhone to hone his skills. He started his own label, originally ‘Bannockburn By Farr’, soon changed simply to ‘By Farr’ they now producer Viognier, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinots Noir from three single vineyards. Sangreal being the oldest of the three, followed by Farrside then their close planted Tour Pres.

Geelong

Within the GI of Geelong there is some distinctly different climates, diverse soil profiles and strong personalities. And it helps that there are quite a few producers making interesting and exciting wines here. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz all excel but in the right site there are plenty of other varieties that can do well.

Pinot Noir

This is the most elusive grape. It is relatively early ripening and extremely sensitive to terroir. Its perfect place on earth is the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. So haunting are great red Burgundy’s charms that growers everywhere try to emulate them. Pinot Noir is not just a one trick pony, it can make great reds, rosé, sparkling and even sweet wines, whites on occasion and I’ve tasted a decent fortified Pinot Noir too.
