Description

Perched 875m above sea level in Queensland’s Granite Belt region is Boireann. They produce a range of stunning reds by taking full advantage of the cool conditions in this unique part of the world. They are sturdy wines, released young and require you to be patient.

This is definitely Sangiovese. Dark cherries, earth, leather choco, oak. The palate is tight, grippy and mineral with a lean weight and lots of structure. I looked at this wine over 7 nights as ran out of wine before I felt I got to see its best. Drink now with chargrilled rump steak but ideally you’d leave this for 5-15 years to evolve in bottle.

Granite Belt – High altitude and cool temperatures along with high deposits of granite in the soil help to shape the flavours and styles of this region. Based around the town of Stanthorpe in Queensland there is a lot more lovely wine coming out of here than you think.

Sangiovese – Widely cultivated across Italy from Emilia-Romagna to Campania and producing as much wine as Barbera. A wide range of clones and hugely diverse growing conditions sees the variety represent easy drinking ‘quaffers’, all the way to benchmarks such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Sangiovese di Romagna and Morellino di Scansano.
