Description

This is fine, fragrant and intense Malbec from way up in the Andes. It has plenty of blue and black fruits with some earthy notes and secondary characters coming up. There is power and balance on the palate that is a nod to the French ownership. Already aged for you, it is ready to drink now but will hold this peak for a long time yet. A big steak off the coals would be lovely.

Purchased in 2006 by Frenchman John Du Monceau who fell in love with the place. He has 70 hectares of vineyard land at 1300 metres above sea level to work with. They make three different brands that represent different quality levels and wine making techniques.

Mendoza – Without question the jewel in the crown of Argentina. A large region. Lots of young and innovative producers have moved in and are slowly mapping out sub-regions and single vineyards of note. Look out for great Malbec but lots of experimentation means you can find all sorts of wonderful wines.

Malbec – Native to South West France, Malbec is a minor player in Bordeaux and the major grape in the underappreciated Cahors. It has long been the star of Argentina. It makes wines that are intense, tannic, dark fruited with nice acidity. Perfect match for a country that consumes a lot of meat.
