Description

The Butera family’s property in the cool maritime region of South Gippsland was established on the western bank of the Bass River in 1983. The first vines were planted on their House Block in 1998, shortly after the close by but distinctly different River Block was planted too. Bass River produces Single Vineyard wines expressing variety, region and season. Viticulture is looked after by Pasquale “Pat” Butera, while son Frank takes the lead in the winery.

Partial barrel ferment, great fruit concentration and zingy acidity provided the building blocks for this stunning SB. The textural barrel ferment combines perfectly with the beautifully aromatic components and the citric acid streak drives the flavours to extreme lengths. This is probably one of the few Aussie SBs that would improve with age.

Sauvignon Blanc –  Hero to many, weed to many more. Sauvignon Blanc sure does divide people. The pure expression of Sauvignon fruit is a stunning and exuberant array of tropical fruits with ripe herbs and plant material. It excels in the chalk, clay and sand of the Loire as well as the wonderful vineyards in Bordeaux for dry white and Sauternes production where Semillon curbs its outgoing nature.
