Description
The Butera family’s property in the cool maritime region of South Gippsland was established on the western bank of the Bass River in 1983. The first vines were planted on their House Block in 1998, shortly after the close by but distinctly different River Block was planted too. Bass River produces Single Vineyard wines expressing variety, region and season. Viticulture is looked after by Pasquale “Pat” Butera, while son Frank takes the lead in the winery.

Chardonnay – The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
