Description

Sourced from young vines that were planted from the cuttings of the 1976 plantings of Bannockburn Geelong vineyard. Fermented with natural yeast in stainless steel. But a portion of the Riesling contracted botrytis and that was fermented and aged in old oak. Richly perfumed because of the botrtyis component . Lemon, apricot, floral, underripe mango. The palate is dry with a streak of acid. The wine flows gloriously along your palate and the flavours linger. This is not an overt wine but it is a wine that has lots of nuances if you care to look. I’d pair this with scallops. Drink now or you could leave for the long long term.

Established in 1974 and from almost day one turning out quality wines. With Gary Farr as winemaker this rising star became an Australian icon. Subsequent winemakers have built on the legend of Bannockburn. Expanded vineyard holdings, added to the range and depth of quality.

Geelong

Within the GI of Geelong there is some distinctly different climates, diverse soil profiles and strong personalities. And it helps that there are quite a few producers making interesting and exciting wines here. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz all excel but in the right site there are plenty of other varieties that can do well.

Riesling

One of the world’s most noble varieties and known transmitter of terroir. Riesling is an important variety for quality wine production although only makes up approximately 4% of the planted area. Wonderful wines are found in Germany, Austria, Alsace and Australia. They can be as dry as any wine you’ll taste or super sweet and luscious. It is a wonderful grape. See more about Riesling here.
