Description

Astobiza Txakoli is not your average Txakoli. And until you try this wine, you’ll never understand the full potential of Txakoli as a serious wine. Astobiza is a special site. 10 hectares of vines between two mountains that protect it from the worst of the fog and frost. They only grow native varieties and with their site, they can leave the grapes on the vine to get ripe. The difference is unbelievable.

When Jon came to town I got to taste with him. And interview him on the radio. He is passionate about making his site one of the best in Spain and not just “good for Txakoli”. I tasted this wine, the 2016 and the 2018. This 2016 is lovely. It has a Riesling-like purity with citrus and floral notes. Also a touch of Chenin Blanc ripeness and pears. It is a dry, clean with complex flavours. At first, it is light and dry, but with time this wine grows in the glass and on your palate. Flooding you with flavour and sheer enjoyment. I could only secure 12 bottles. I would happily keep them all for me. So jump in before I do.

Txakoli

pronounced: chah-ko-lee. Slightly sparkling, very dry white wine with high acidity and low alcohol content. Produced in the Spanish provinces of the Basque Country, Cantabria and northern Burgos.
It is normally drunk young and fresh, served into tall glasses poured from a height as an apéritif.
Rose and Red examples are available too.
