Tour de Tasting at Epocha 2nd July 2016 3-5pm

July 2, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$20

Most of us will never compete in the Tour de France. The feats of strength on display are almost as great as us poor Aussies who have to sit up all night to watch then rock up for work the next day. But this is France and there are vines and cheese everywhere that get criminally neglected. Surely if it was truly a gentleman’s sport they’d stop and taste. Do you ever wonder what the story is about the vines they ride passed in regions of which you’ve never heard?

 This is your tasting

Of the 21 stages they travel through some unheralded regions for wine and even Cider (and they go through Bourg-en-Bresse. Mmmm Bresse chicken). There is a lot of wine made in France and while we tend to only hear about a handful of the famous regions, there is a whole world of flavours and textures if you head off the beaten path. I’ve picked out the most exciting wines from these regions. Wines that will open up your understanding for the regions and broaden your drinking horizons. You may find yet another reason why you need to go to France in the next few years.

The Wine Tour Stages

Brittany Cider – You thought Normandy was where it’s at for cider? Wait ’til you get a load of this!

Two Whites – a Chardonnay from Arbois in the Jura, which is one of the most visually stunning regions and the place where Comte was born (mmmm Comte). Jura and it’s wines has a personality all of it’s own and it’s a place you have to get to know. We will also taste a Jacquère from the Alpine region of Savoie. Imagine vineyards climbing up the feet of the snow capped Mountains, the wines are elegant and perfumed and desperate for some fondue.

Four Reds – Let’s get into some Grenache based blends. Saint Chinian is an appellation west of Montpellier in the sun drenched Languedoc and will be paired two lesser known Southern Rhone regions of Nimes and Luberon. Nimes West, Luberon East and both offer value wines with bags of flavour. Then we will cycle onto a Malbec from Cahors from a seriously good wine producer. These wines are every bit the match for Bordeaux without the hefty price tag.

Last stop is Muscat Beaumes de Venise, this is possibly the best sweet wine from France. It is often understated and with great acid so you can drink a second glass.

What to Expect at this tasting.

8 quality wines from regions you’ve probably never heard of. Myself and the importer will be there to show you through the range and answer your questions.

Epocha will provide cheese and chacuterie to enjoy while we taste.

I have two goals for these events. 1. To share lovely wine with you. 2. To educate you on the wine world and demystify it.

The environment is casual and friendly.  There is no need to know anything about wine and you are welcome, nay, encouraged to ask as many questions as pop into your head.

You can purchase the wines you enjoy at a great price on the day of the tasting to enjoy at your leisure.

You can bring as many friends as you can muster.

All for the bargain price of $20 per head.
