There are a handful of world renowned and iconic producers in Australia. Torbreck is absolutely one of them. Their wines are crafted in the vineyards, which is why they not only acknowledge these patches of earth and their custodians but celebrate them too. The control from grape to final bottled product means quality can be closely watched and finessed to get the best result for the wise people who drink their wines.
Torbreck’s love of the vine and wine is what attracts me to their wines. That and the wines are delicious drinks.
And it is these delicious drinks I want to share with you. The title could easily have been “Torbreck and the wines that inspire them” as we’ve match up three brackets of Torbrecks main focusses, ie Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz, with old world wines that they take their guidance from. Sure, you can only make Barossan wines from the Barossa Valley but you can certainly borrow and incorporate other ideas from other regions to improve what you are doing. Not to mention that winemakers are a curious lot and love nothing more than to drink wines of the world for the joy of it.
For the price of $170 you will enjoy three courses that have been selected by Chiara’s head chef Gomez to match with the wines that we will drink on the night.
Arrive at 7pm for starters and then we will sit down with Torbreck’s roving Bon Vivant, National Sales manager and vintage cellar hand/slave Mick Dowling and wine worldly importer of the great estate of France, Germany and Austria Iain Cameron from Vintage and Vine.
