For a long time I had said that the Italian varieties in the King Valley and surrounds were a bit of a non-event and that Italian wine was so cheap you could just buy their wines.
Having tasted a lot of wine from the King and Alpine Valleys as well as Beechworth and Benalla lately I’ve changed my mind completely.
Whether I have become more worldly or the winemakers are doing a much better job at understanding what they are working with I can’t tell you. What I can tell you is that if you haven’t come around now is the time to jump on board and experience the joy these wines can bring.
Where better to do this than Mezzo? We can enjoy Silvio and Felicity’s hospitality while we are treated to seven of the most fascinating and distinctly Italian wines from Pizzini’s stable (culling it to just seven was a fair chore). Mirco and Mezzo’s kitchen crew are currently experimenting to get a menu that will seamlessly match the wines on offer.

We have sourced live music for the event: A soulful jazz duo called ‘Nessa’ made up of vocalist Vanessa Scrofani and guitarist John Theodoulou. Their repertoire consists of a tasty selection of jazz standards, latin and bossa nova, including favourites by Ella Fitzgerald, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Peggy Lee, and Burt Bacharach.
