Phil’s Favourite Wines of 2016 @ Massi. 3rd December. 2-4pm $40ea
December 3, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$40Over the course of a year I try a lot of wines (lots and lots). Mostly they are good wines, very few bad wines (thankfully) and occasionally they are outstanding wines. You only hear about a very small percentage of them because most of the time I am tasting with an objective in mind. Often there are lovely wines that I really enjoy drinking but I don’t have room/purpose/customers for it at that time. The very best of them keep popping up in my brain and saying ‘tell the world about me’. Sometimes I order them and drink them, putting a few bottles in mixed dozens of customers.
This is your chance to see what wines float around in my head talking to me. What may surprise you is the wines that charm me and continue to sweet talk me over the year are often not the really expensive wines. They have their place and often the more expensive a wine is, the more you need to set up the context to give you the full value of what you have bought. These wines are the ones you drink for the sheer pleasure of it. Close your eyes and feel the lush flavours seep into every corner of your palate. YES, for those that know me and what I like, the wines will be textural, they will have acid and I will talk endlessly about what makes them so good.
The best part about this month’s tasting is we are going to relax and have (more) fun (than normal). We’ll have some platters of cured meats, ascolana olives and cauliflowers + taleggio fritters. I will bring a few extra bottles and we may even award a door prize for the most festive outfit on the day.
As always, the lovely wines are available for sale on the day, with significant discounts on orders of 6 or 12 bottles (or more).
What do you need to come along? You need to book of course 🙂 You also need enjoy wine, be curious about its flavours and styles and you must be willing to listen to me talk about wine.
You do not need to be a wine expert or understand all the terms I throw at you. There is no test except for the most important, “do you like this wine?”. You need to bring a pen to take notes because ours are 5 years old and in dire need of replacement but they are now traditional and it seems a shame to replace them now.
Scroll down to book in. I look forward to seeing you there.
