Champagne Tasting at Mezzo 18th October
October 18, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Champagne is without a doubt the most hyped and well marketed wine region in the world. It offers crushingly disappointing and expensive wines in one corner while also offering some of the most innovative, imaginative and engaging wines you are ever likely to try in the other corner.
What to do? What to do?
Drink the good stuff! But how do you find it?
You could start by joining me at Mezzo on the 18th October to try at least six of the best Champagne producers that are available in our fine country. There will be a strong bent towards the Grower Producers that I do love so much. These are the wines that really opened my eyes to the quality that is achievable in the Champagne region with a bit of love and care. While tradition dictated that the marginal climate of Champagne meant that sourcing wines from different regions, grapes and vintages was the best insurance policy against the inclement weather. With the coming of ‘don’t call it climate change’ and better practices in the vineyard now it is possible for single site, variety or vintage wines to be made consistently without a huge variation in quality each vintage.
The guys we will look at are those that are using modern innovation, traditional knowledge and a love of great wine to craft Champagne that not only is great fizz, but great wines that you can enjoy as you would a lovely Chardonnay or Pinot Noir table wine. Yep, drink them out of a wine glass, not too cold and let some of the fizz go and they taste BETTER! A site to behold I promise!
The cost this time around is $25 per head but that includes a $10 donation to The Heart Foundation (more on that below). The tasting runs from 1-3pm and of course, Mezzo will be providing some yummy food too.
So, why not join me to drink the good stuff?
Concerning The Heart Foundation.
Every year of TWD’s existence I have taken part in fundraising for a cause that I believe is worth supporting. The opportunity to work with The Heart Foundation is exciting for me having lost my Mum and two maternal grandparents to heart attacks. I started two years ago and over that time I have raised nearly $2500. This year I am hoping to do better still and would appreciate your help by joining me to drink Champagne and enjoy some great food.
