Best Sparkling In Australia

What is the Best Sparkling in Australia ?

I don’t know about you. But I am extremely fussy about which Sparkling wine I drink.Henskens Rankin Of Tasmania Vintage Brut 2010

I don’t drink a lot so when I find I good one, I find it irresistible.

Henksens Rankin Vintage Brut 2010 is the Champion Wine from this year’s Tasmanian Wine Show.

I found out because one of my customers is the maker of this wine and he engaged in some not so humble bragging. I’m grateful that he did because it is bloody good.

It picked up the Trophy for Best Aged Release too. If it isn’t the best Sparkling Wine in Australia it must be pretty close. Either way, you need to try the 2010 as it will be an eye-opener.

At a seated masterclass, Frieda Henskens will present three of her Sparkling wines; including the two-time trophy-winning 2010.

We will taste 6 wines in total. The 2010, their follow-up 2011 Vintage Brut, and a sneak preview of their Rosé. I will pair them with examples of Sparkling wine I enjoy from across the globe.

Terrazze Dell’Etna Brut Rose Sicily 2014
Sparkling Rosé from Mount Etna. It is made from Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) with a dash of Nerello Mascalese.

Miceli Michael Brut Mornington Peninsula 2008miceli michael mornington peninsula brut 2006
I first visited Miceli about 15 years ago. The people and the wines here are lovely. The base wine is Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Grown and made on their site. It is then taken to Kilchurn wines to start the journey into becoming Sparkling wine.

Paul Bara Grand Millesime Champagne 2008
This was one of the highlights from my last trip to Champagne. In a sea of mediocrity, I am so happy that these wines and the ones like it come to Australia.

As well as enjoying 6 great Sparkling wines…

…we get to hear from an expert Sparkling winemaker about the art, the dark art of making quality Sparkling wine.

Carmel and Donald at Spencer & Co are working on the menu to match these wines and we’ll have ourselves an enjoyable event.

There are only 10 seats available for this event. And having said that, some are sold/promised pending payment.
